Question about electric guitar strings (for more advanced)?
Ok, I have two electric guitars.
With both tuned standard:
65′ Silvertone’s strings feel tight, harder to push down and difficult to bend notes, everything just feels TOO tight.
Jackson’s strings feel perfect, nice and loose and easy to bend the strings all over the place.
is the difference mostly the strings? or the guitar? I’m a good Guitar Player, I’ve just never figured this out! My instructor suggested trying lighter gauge strings. I also guessed it might be my method of stringing guitars. I doubt that though
Update: The length from bridge to nut on the silvertone is actually 1 and 1/3rds inch shorter!
So the jackson’s strings are longer.. It must mean it’s the strings right? Simple physics says the strings on the silvertone should be more loose unless they are heavier gauge… right?
If the scale lengths are the same, the only difference in tension should come from manufacturing differences (ie, string composition) and gauge. That’s it. And the string composition will make far less of an impact than gauge.
Longer scale lengths means more string means more tension than “normal”. Lower gauges are your only real solution, if they’re too “tight” for you…. so yeah, you’re right about the physics.
You can try flatwound strings, they are reputed to be a little bit easier on the fingers.
